Twitter Traffic to Site Surpasses Yahoo and Bing SEO Visits

The importance of Social Media in corporate and personal brand building cannot be stressed enough.  Below, you will see two TOP TRAFFIC Sources for one of our online brands.

The time span for the first shot is July 5, 2010 through August 5, 2010.  The second, is from September 5, 2010 to October 5, 2010.

In between August and September, there was a big surge in our Twitter usage.  Up through October 5, 2010, this brands’ Twitter followers went from approximately 400 to 1500 Twitter followers.

The social tactics used basically could be summarized into:

  • Finding a niche and tweeting and blogging about the niche.
  • Creating auto-posting RSS Feeds so that Twitter updates are powered with a clickable URL through to content.
  • Adding SHARE buttons on the content itself, in the case that someone else reading the content would actively Tweet or notify friends about the content.
  • Creating relationships via Twitter, by not only adding Tweets about content on the site… but by becoming familiar with a core set of Twitter regulars, encouraging them to visit the content on the site.

While overall traffic did not markedly increase month to month, we were happy to see that TwitterFeed accounts for 10% of the traffic in the new metrics.

It also surpassed traffic for Bing and Yahoo.  SURPRISE!

July 5, 2010 through August 5, 2010

September 5, 2010 to October 5, 2010

Next steps would be to further track user actions on site and see what bounce rates, call-to-action adherence, and other Key Performance Indicators were enabled as a result of social network tools.
