überSocial: The New “UberTwitter” Arises

I like to Tweet.  I operate 4 different “branding” Twitter accounts, collectively allowing me to have nearly 5,000 followers.  While that may not be a lot compared to others, I really enjoy the ability to use UberTwitter’s application on my BlackBerry.

This past Friday, my dependance on this app was tested, as Twitter shut down Uber’s access to their API.  Seems like Twitter complained about violations to the usage of the policy.

Here is what I have been able to piece together.

  • Over the weekend, UberTwitter has changed their name to UberSocial.  This seems to be one of the requests with which they had to comply.
  • More than 140 characters won’t be able to be sent!  This was a great feature where tweets over 140 characters could be sent and the extra text would be accessible

Per http://www.examiner.com/celebrity-headlines-in-national/ubertwitter-shut-down-by-twitter-thousands-inconvenienced-as-changes-reviewed , Ubertwitter is responsible for around 20% of the Worldwide transmission of Tweets.   Amazing.

So, looks like UberSocial has done what they could to comply… Let’s keep the watches ticking to see how long Twitter will take to approve and turn the feed back on.  Hang in there UberSocial!
